I’ve been using this camera in the rain and have yet to experience any sort of issues.
I have to say that it’s been pretty great. Like the Sony a6400, the a6300 is a great camera for shooting in all kinds of not-so-harsh weather, but it’s especially great for shooting in light drizzle.
The reason for this is that it has a weather-sealed body. The seals on this camera ensure that any moisture or dust that gets inside won’t damage your camera.
It also has a touchscreen, which makes it really easy to check your shots or adjust settings while you’re out there in the elements.
But what about those photos? Well, they look great! Especially when you consider how much we paid for them (we bought ours on Amazon).
We were able to capture some really beautiful images during our time using this camera in the rain.
Sony a6300 in the desert
Last year on our trip to the Sonoran desert, we used our Sony a6300 to capture some amazing photos.
We were so excited to try it out and see how it would perform in the desert.
We know that small particles of sand can be very damaging to a camera. We had heard horror stories of people who took their cameras out into the desert and had sand get into all kinds of nooks and crannies, causing them all kinds of problems.
But we were pleasantly surprised with how well our Sony performed in this environment. We were able to get some really great shots using this camera.
The only problem was that we found a lot of dust on the lens after each day. So we had to clean it off with a microfiber cloth before we could use it again.
But aside from that, our Sony a6300 performed very well in the desert.
Overall, I really enjoyed using this camera and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves to shoot in remote areas.
Sony a6300 in the snow
I took it out for a spin in the snow and wanted to share my experience with you.
I used the Sony a6300 while skiing at Snow Valley. It was really fun taking photos while skiing down the mountain—especially when I got pulled by a friend who was teaching me how to ski. (Thanks, Angus!)
The camera performed perfectly in cold temperatures, even when there were snowflakes falling from the sky.
I shoot for about 10-15 minutes in the snow, and I constantly wipe the camera off with a cloth to keep it from getting too wet.
The photos came out great and I was really impressed with how well my camera performed in such cold temperatures.
Of course, I will definitely not recommend using your camera in the snow for too long —but if you’re just taking a few quick photos, your camera should be fine.
How can you make your camera waterproof?
If you’re going to the beach, or you want to take your camera into the water with you, there are some steps you can take to make it waterproof.
1. Use a waterproof case. You can find cases for cameras at most major retailers, or you can even make your own out of duct tape and plastic wrap (just kidding, don’t do that).
These cases are extremely useful if you want to use your Sony a6300 underwater and they will also keep your camera dry if you’re using it in the rain or snow.
I recommend getting a SeaFrogs Salted Line Waterproof Housing since it doesn’t give me any headaches while using my a6300 underwater.
Just make sure the case is well-sealed around all openings so there are no leaks or cracks where water can get in.
2. If you want to protect your camera from the rain, getting a rain cover is also a good idea. These are usually made of plastic and rubber, and they fit over your camera like a glove.
They will keep the majority of water out while letting you take photos in the rain.
3. Keep an umbrella handy. If you’re going to be outside in the rain and want to take photos, having an umbrella with you can be very useful.
An umbrella will not only keep your camera dry but also provide some protection for yourself.
Is the Sony a6300 a good camera?
The Sony a6300 is a great camera for anyone who’s looking for an affordable, high-quality option that can be used for both photography and videography.
It also has the ability to shoot in 4K, a mic socket, and a video-focused Picture Profile system that allows you to fine-tune your footage.
With a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor, this camera can capture high-quality images even when taking photos of fast-moving objects.
Moreover, its autofocus system works well in most situations, though it does struggle with low light conditions and subjects with low contrast.
The low-light performance isn’t perfect, but it’s still better than many other cameras on the market today—especially when compared with other mirrorless systems.
Lastly, unlike the Sony a6000 and a6100, the a6300 is weather-sealed and has a solid build quality. I never experienced any issues using the Sony a6300 in light rain or snow.
Overall, if you want a small camera that can be used for photography and videography, I highly recommend the Sony a6300.
It’s a great all-around camera that is perfect for those who want to get into photography but don’t have the budget to invest in more expensive options like the Sony a7 IV.
Is the Sony a6300 discontinued?
Sadly, the Sony a6300 has been discontinued by Sony since the fall of 2019. However, it is still available for purchase on Amazon and other retailers.
I believed, you can still get it brand new, but it won’t be available forever. You can also find used models, but you have to check them first to make sure it’s in good condition.
